The half a dozen stores WHSmith planned to open across Rome’s two airports have now all opened, the British convenience retailer has revealed.
Following on from the opening of its first Italian store at Torino Airport in July of last year, WHSmith has now opened six stores across the two airports operated by Aeroporti di Roma: Ciampino and Fiumicino.
In Fiumicino, which is Italy’s busiest airport, the retailer has opened three airside stores – in areas C, D and E – and one store in terminal three arrivals. While in Ciampino, one store has opened landside and another in airside.
Like most other WHSmith airport stores, the outlets will offer a range of confectionery, drinks, stationery, toys, travel essentials and electronic accessories, as well as Italian and international newspapers and magazines.
The retailer said the store openings represented an important part of its international development.
WHSmith International Head of business Development Andy Thomas said: “We are delighted that the WHSmith brand is now present in Italian airports and we are looking at new opportunities to grow our business in Italy. We are looking forward to building a lasting long-term partnership with Aeroports Di Roma and will now focus on providing all customers with quality products and an unforgettable customer service experience.”
