British Airways and Iberia holding company International Airlines Group is to issue requests for proposals for the inflight retail contracts onboard both airlines..
Inflight concessionaire Tourvest Inflight Retail Services runs the duty-free programme on British Airways. DFNIonline understands that contract ends next June (2015) and the tender process will begin imminently. Tourvest was awarded the British Airways inflight retail contract in early 2011 after the airline announced it would outsource its inflight retail programme and began operations in the second half of that year.
TDF overcame stiff competition from Alpha Flight, Duty Free Air and Ship Supply to secure the contract and the tender is likely to once again be hotly contested.
British Airways declined to comment when contacted by DFNIonline. However, Tourvest confirmed it is eager to retain the contract and compete for the Iberia deal, while Inflight Service, which recently went live with its Norwegian Air operations, is also keen on the contract.
