US doubles duty-free allowance

The Trade Act of 2002 becomes effective on November 4. The move comes after a long period of lobbying by the International Association of Airport Duty-Free Stores (IAADFS).

IAADFS executive director Michael Payne said: “The current allowance for tobacco and liquor is not affected by this provision but clearly this increase will be of benefit overall for the duty-free industry.

“This has been a long-term effort by IAADFS to obtain the increase and we are hopeful it will be of significant value to all IAADFS members, concessionaires and suppliers, as well as the entire duty-free industry.”
