Flemingo International helps Libyan evacuation

Indian duty-free retailer Flemingo International is lending its support to the urgent evacuation of Indian citizens from Libya, as the crisis in the North African country continues.

The company has ferried trapped citizens from the Libyan port of Benghazi to the nearby port of Alexandria in Egypt, from where Indian citizens have flown to India on specially chartered flights.

The ferry, MV Scotia Prince, was diverted to Benghazi in Libya, at the request of the Indian government. Some 1,188 Indian citizens have been successfully evacuated and have now reached the shores of India. The efforts are on-going and the next sortie is expected to bring in additional 1,200 Indians and Sri Lankan citizens in the next couple of days,

Flemingo International joint managing director Rasik Thakker said: “We were called upon by the Indian government and have answered the call by pledging our support and immediately deploying our vessel and teams to aid the on-going evacuation in Libya. We are committed to be working alongside the Indian government to ensure the success of this mission.”
