YSL New York store opening signals new direction
Gucci announced today the reopening of the enlarged and refurbished 8,500 sq ft (790sq m) Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche flagship store in New York.
The store has been redesigned and expanded at its original location in a landmark building on Madison Avenue, Manhattan. The store design was conceived by Tom Ford, creative director of Yves Saint Laurent, and architect William Sofield.
The New York location marks an important moment in the evolution of the French house, bringing together for the first time under one roof the Rive Gauche womenswear, menswear and accessories, and Yves Saint Laurent fragrances and cosmetics. Gucci said the New York flagship will be the model for future Yves Saint Laurent stores worldwide.
During the next two years approximately 40 Yves Saint Laurent owned and operated stores will open, including existing and newly opened boutiques. All will reflect the new design formulated since Gucci acquired Yves Saint Laurent and YSL Beauté in November 1999.
