Wisa Group will introduce 1,200sq m (12,912sq ft) of duty-free space in Mexico City airport terminal two in February

Panama-based Wisa Group is pressing ahead with plans for the February opening of two new blocks of duty-free stores measuring just over 1,200sq m (12,912sq ft) in Mexico City airport’s new terminal two.

Commercial director Marcelo Montico told DFNI: “We are on target with our plan to open the new stores in mid-February – we have our design plans in place and we have received the final paperwork from the Mexican authorities, which allow us to operate our bonded warehouse and duty-free outlets. The two blocks of outlets in the terminal's departures area will offer a full range of duty-free merchandise including traditional categories such as fragrances, liquor and tobacco, and newer categories such as watches and accessories.”

The new terminal partially opened last month to a selection of national flights. Anchor airline Aeromexico, along with Continental Airlines, Copa and LAN Airlines, are expected to move from T1 to T2 at the beginning of February.

Wisa surprised the duty-free community by winning the invitation-only tender in July, beating competition from Dufry Group, Aldeasa and Latinoamericana de Duty Free.
