William Grant makes rum acquisitions

17-Oct-2002

Scotch whisky supplier William Grant & Sons has acquired three former Seagram rum brands from Diageo and Pernod Ricard

The brands are Old Vatted Demarara, Wood's 100 Old Navy and Vat 19, and the new owner plans to develop Wood's 100 Old Navy in duty-free and travel-retail.

Wm Grant travel-retail director Bob Downing said: "The acquisition of Wood's 100 Old Navy affords us the opportunity to develop the brand through duty-free outlets worldwide. With its full strength and pedigree, Wood's makes an attractive proposition for the travelling consumer and we shall be discussing the duty-free opportunities with our key customers at the TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes."

Wood's 100 Old Navy is produced in Guyana by Diamond Distillers, and carries a strength of 57% abv.

The new acquisitions follow Grant's purchase of Canadian whisky Gibson's Finest from Diageo last week.
