Airport operator Infratil attributed the good performance to improved passenger spend rates and new store openings

Wellington International airport operator Infratil has announced that the airport registered an increase of 12% in total revenues in 2007 compared with the previous corresponding period, to NZ$76.6m ($60.3m). The growth was boosted by a rise of 21% in concession revenues in the 12 months to December 2007, to NZ$10.8m ($8.5m), which comprised the bulk of the airport’s NZ$30.2m ($23.8m) non-aeronautical revenues.

Infratil said in a statement: “Concession revenues continue to strengthen, benefiting from increased passenger numbers, the continuing improvement of passenger spend rates and the commencement of new retail stores.” A new arrivals duty-free store operated by The Nuance Group subsidiary Regency Duty Free was completed in September 2007.

Wellington airport is currently carrying out the second phase of the expansion and improvement of its new international passenger terminal, nicknamed “The Rock” because of its design.
