Weitnauer splits retail and distribution

19-Oct-2002

Swiss travel retailer Weitnauer announced today that its activities will be split into two separate divisions, Weitnauer Retail and Weitnauer Distribution

The distribution arm, described as "non-core" by the company, will be integrated into a newly formed division.

The move becomes effective from October 31. Weitnauer Retail and Weitnauer Distribution will have their own management teams and will be independent of each other.

Weitnauer ceo Frédéric Gauchet said the possible options for further growth of each division included the creation of strategic alliances in their respective fields.

He said: "Today, we are one of the five main travel retail operators in the market place. Our objective is to enable each of these new companies to rank in the top three within their own markets."

He added: "On the one hand, we are very pleased to have grown into a pure player in the retail market through the implementation of the reorganized Weitnauer Retail. We will be in a position to fulfil our partners' current expectations: fully dedicated teams and specialized services, together with a long-standing experience of all markets throughout the world. On the other hand, thanks to its independence, our non-core Weitnauer Distribution will be able to establish itself as a leading actor in its sector."
