Weitnauer Group announced this week that it is expanding the number of shops it operates onboard Superfast Ferries (SFF) as the Greek line opens up new routes in the Baltic. The cooperation, which began in 1995, has steadily grown and today Weitnauer operates shops onboard six Superfast Ferries in the Adriatic Sea and on eight Blue Star Ferries, of which six are in the Adriatic and two between the Greek islands.

The duty-free business, already converted into duty-paid, will be extended into Northern Europe when two new Superfast vessels go into service between Rostock in Germany and Hanko near Helsinki and two between Rostock and Sodertalje near Stockholm. The first ferry has started operations and all four will be operational by March 2002.

Michael Stopnicer, coo of Weitnauer activities in the region commented: "I am very confident that we can build on the success in the Mediterranean, also in the North. These ferries enjoy the advantage of the time factor and they offer a tempting retail assortment, comfort, luxurious design, restaurants, bars, conference rooms, disco and a children's paradise."
