Weitnauer confirms departure from Rome fashion

12-Dec-2002

Travel retailer Weitnauer Dufrital has confirmed that it will be not be bidding for the fashion concession at Rome Fiumicino airport when its current deal expires at the end of the year

The company has cited commercial reasons for the decision.

Weitnauer ceo Frédéric Gauchet told TRW: "We found the terms and conditions of the contract proposed by the airport financially and commercially unattractive, with a too limited assortment of products."

TRW understands that the Nuance Group is most likely to take over the concession, although the Nuance said it has not yet been selected by airport authority Aeroporti di Roma. A spokesperson for AdR refused to confirm the rumour, saying: "We are in negotiations with a number of international operators and expect a decision by the end of the year."
