WHO warns against travel to Taipei

9-May-2003

The World Health Organization has issued an alert warning travellers against non-essential visits to the Taiwanese capital Taipei

The outbreak of the SARS virus has claimed 13 lives in Taiwan, the fifth largest death toll recorded worldwide.

Six new deaths were reported in China today, including the first reported death in Shanghai. And reports suggest that Russia may have encountered its first case of SARS, prompting the country's authorities to ban ticket sales for flights to mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Further updates will appear on travelretailworld.com and in the next issue of DFNI, out next week.
