Sales of One water at the retailer’s stores are expected to fund another 20 pumps by the end of the year

World Duty Free (WDF) has announced that sales of One water bottles at its stores have funded 13 pumps in Africa and are expected to fund a further 20 by the end of the year. The not-for-profit water brand was launched in 2005 by Global Ethics and all proceeds from its sale go to funding pumps in African villages with no access to clean water. Through its sales of One water, WDF has funded 13 PlayPumps—which are powered by children playing on a roundabout—costing £7,500 ($14,830) each in the area around Johannesburg in South Africa.

Since March 27, WDF has showcased One water’s advertisement on its Art Wall in London Heathrow airport terminal five. The advert features a number of celebrities including actors David Tennant and Hugo Speer.

WDF managing director Mark Riches said: “One water is extremely important to World Duty Free. I am delighted we have been able to fund 10 PlayPumps in 2007 but we hope to do even better in 2008 and fund at least 20 pumps following the added publicity of the screening of One water’s advert on the Art Wall.”
