Travellers who use the company’s online check-in service will receive £6 off any £30 purchase onboard

UK airline Virgin Atlantic has launched a shopping promotion to encourage passengers to check in on the internet. Between March 1 and April 30, customers travelling from London Heathrow, London Gatwick or Manchester airports who use online check-in will receive a voucher offering £6 off a £30 purchase with onboard duty-free service Retail Therapy.

Virgin Atlantic sales and marketing director Paul Dickinson said: “We hope that this promotion will encourage passengers to check in online before their trip as it means that on arrival at the airport, they simply hand over their luggage at the ‘Bag Drop’ desk and go straight through security, making the whole process much quicker and stress-free for them. We did a similar promotion last summer which proved to be very popular with our passengers, so we’re hoping that by offering them a voucher again to spend on board their flights, they will use this opportunity to see for themselves just how easy using online check-in is.”

Virgin’s inflight concession is operated by Tourvest Duty Free, which reported in its six months results to December that the performance on board Virgin had been disappointing, and that it was taking ‘remedial steps’ to improve the business.
