LS Travel Retail EMEA COO to address forward-looking global conference in Malta in November

DFNI Global Conference 2012LS Travel Retail EMEA COO Vincent Romet has joined a list of high profile speakers who have signed up to address the DFNI annual conference this November in Malta.

This year’s event is a global conference to coincide with the publication’s 25th anniversary and takes the theme, Embracing the Future: Harnessing Innovation for the Next Generation. It is focused on the best structure of duty-free and travel-retail for the decades ahead and runs from November 13–14 following a welcoming cocktail on the evening of November 12.

The first session will feature a panel of global retailers and airport concession specialists headed by The Nuance Groupe Europe CEO Andrea Belardini and who will present their view on the concession structure of the future. This will be followed by a session headed by Dubai Duty Free president George Horan on the practical exploitation ahead of the opportunities for travel-retail at major international airport hubs.

A session examining the effective deployment of technology to raise brand awareness and boost spend per passenger will feature Holition CEO Jonathan Chippindale, who will present the latest techniques for dramatic boost in compulsive purchases and demonstrate how this can be deployed in a travel-retail environment.

German-American mobile technology company match2blue vice-president Cormac Corrigan will reveal the means of harnessing individual’s shopping habits via a smartphone to alert passengers to offers that will specifically interest them in a travel-retail environment.

For the first time the conference will include a session devoted to training, with liquor supplier The Edrington Group director of brand heritage Derek Brown providing an interactive presentation on the most effective techniques to convey the key themes of a sophisticated brand to a worldwide network of airport sales staff.

Budapest Airport business unit consumers director Alan Bork will outline the threats confronted by duty-free business in central and Eastern Europe and addressed by the newly-formed Central and Eastern European Travel Retail Association (CEETRA), which will then hold its first AGM at the conference.

A key session on inflight will introduce a panel of inflight concessionaires and IT providers to discuss both the lessons of the past 25 years and the technology opportunities ahead, among them the growth in inflight realtime transaction processing giving rise to a surge in inflight retail opportunity.

The second day of the conference will kick off with a comprehensive breakdown of the results of exclusive research undertaken specifically for conference delegates presented by m1nd-set founder Peter Mohn.

There will then follow sessions each examining the best means of seizing travel-retail potential in three regions of Middle East, the Americas and Asia/Pacific. The final session will feature a presentation from ETRC which will draw on its experience tackling threats of all kinds over the past 25 years and present an upbeat look at the projected longevity of the duty-free market in the decades ahead.

The conference delegate rate is £850 (1,327), with an early bird discount rate of £710 ($1,108) available until September 7.
