Vancouver International airport (YVR) has revealed a new visual identity as it prepares to open the first phase of expansion at the international terminal

Airport authority Vancouver International airport (YVR) has revealed a new visual identity to reflect the airport’s new facilities, west-coast style and growing reputation as a global gateway.

President and CEO Vancouver airport authority Larry Berg said: “As we prepare to expand our international terminal and welcome more passengers, this new look reflects what makes our airport unique and how we are represented to the world in 2007 and beyond.”

The launch of YVR’s new visual identity comes as the airport prepares to open the first phase of the $420m expansion of the international terminal later this month.  Like the new terminal wing, which will feature four new gates and an aquarium showcasing indigenous marine life of the Pacific west coast, the new logo provides a modern look. Aldeasa will also begin trading as Vancouver’s sole duty-free operator this month, three months ahead of the initial schedule to coincide with the opening of the new wing.

Key elements of the new logo include a west coast colour palette reflecting the land, sea and sky themes of the airport’s modern facilities and architectural design, an arc element that references flight, and a new tagline – “Beyond, Every Day” – to describe YVR’s approach to its business. Designed by Hangar 18 Creative Group, the new logo will be used in everything from airport signage and uniforms, to vehicles and publications.

The introduction of the new logo also coincides with additional development projects in and around the airport, including the construction of the YVR portion of the Canada Line and the Link Building, a central passenger hub that will connect the international and domestic terminals, slated for completion by summer 2007.
