The deal marks a major management change for both the US and the Argentinian retailer

Duty Free Americas (DFA) has announced that InterBaires CEO Enrique Urioste will become president of its airport division from October 1 2007. His replacement at InterBaires has yet to be named, but commercial director Daniel Ibarra is expected to take on his responsibilities in the interim period.

Urioste has been credited with reversing the fortunes of Argentinian retailer InterBaires over his five years with the company. Under his direction the company has become a leading regional player, being voted the Raven Fox Americas Airport Retailer of the Year in 2006 and 2007.

Urioste will replace Michael Dinar at DFA. Dinar is returning to his native Israel with his family, but will remain as a consultant with DFA until December.

DFA CEO Jerome Falic said: “DFA is delighted to welcome Enrique Urioste to our management team, and we are confident that his involvement in our company will help us meet the demands of the dynamic duty-free industry...We recognise his leadership skills, his decision-making and executive abilities, and the need for his talents for the continued growth of DFA.”

Urioste said: “It has been an honour to serve for the past seven years at InterBaires. I was fortunate to have been able to contribute to the growth and success of the business and to lead and work with one of the most professional teams and a great company. I look forward to working with DFA’s very talented management team and sales associates to capitalise on the progress that has been made and help position the company for long-term success.”
