Turkish retailer Unifree plans to focus on cigarettes at its store at Dalaman airport's new international terminal

Cigarettes will be the dominant product sold at the 3,000 sq m (32,280 sq ft) store at Dalaman airport's new international terminal, according to retailer Unifree. The company won the tender for retail at the new facility in 2004 and expects the terminal to open in April 2006.

Newly-appointed Unifree general manager Kadir Ishakoglu told RavenFox.com: "UK cigarette brands are likely to dominate since the majority of passengers are expected to be from the UK."

Whisky and liqueurs will also be an important category, said Ishakoglu as will fragrances, cosmetics and accessories. Toys will also be sold at the shop.

Ishakoglu said the contract will run over the next six-and-a-half years, with rent prescribed by the holder of the airport's build-operate-transfer contract. Unifree also operates a duty-free shop at the existing terminal alongside Onur Ekspres and other retailers, but will be the sole operator at the new terminal.
