Ugandan authorities invite retail proposals
Spurred by supportive government policies and a major terminal refurbishment programme the Ugandan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has called for proposals for a range of airport services at Entebbe International airport, Kampala
These include management of duty-free shops, restaurants and the construction of a new airport hotel, cargo centre, maintenance hangars and other facilities. Currently there are three local duty-free operators at Entebbe.
CAA spokesman I I Igunduura told TRW: "CAA does not normally call open tenders for this space as the rates are already determined. Proposals by intending concessionaires are however welcome. International companies would be encouraged to send enquiries or proposals to the authority." Current duty-free rentals range from $18 to $20 per square metre, he added. Entebbe airport last year handled 400,000 passengers.
In May 2002 the CAA signed a concession with US-based Clear Channel Independent to manage airport advertising at Entebbe International.
