US airlines report May international passenger growth

4-Jun-2004

Year-on-year growth in international traffic at Delta, American and Continental suggests that US travel prospects are encouraging, but the aviation industry continues to struggle

Three of the largest US airlines have showed strong growth in international passenger traffic in May, although revenue concerns persist throughout the country's aviation industry. Delta Air Lines, Continental Airlines and American Airlines reported year-on-year growth of 38%, 11.9% and 27.5% respectively.

But although the growth is encouraging for US travel prospects in general, it will do little to ease pressure on the country's airlines. Of the three, only Delta achieved growth beyond capacity increases introduced over the past year.
