BAA's seven UK airports handled 8.1m passengers in November, a fall of 10.6% against the same month in 2000, which reflects a slight improvement on October figures of -12.0%.

BAA said the individual trends recorded by airports since September 11 continued. Low fare services underpinned continued growth of 7.2% at Stansted, 8.2% at Edinburgh and 3.3% at Glasgow. London's Heathrow and Gatwick continued to be worse affected with passenger numbers down by 13.5% at Heathrow and 19.8% at Gatwick.

On a route sector basis, North Atlantic destinations (-26.1%) and other long-haul traffic (-12.7%) continued to be the worst affected. The comparable declines in October were 31.3% for North Atlantic traffic and 16.4% for other long-haul traffic. The European scheduled and charter markets fell by 8.5% and 3.5% respectively in November.
