Madras-based UC World Online presented the global launch of its E-ASP (Application Service Provider) for the duty-free and travel retail industry at a Cannes breakfast meeting last week. The new website UCdutyfree.com creates a portal to provide standardised online pre-ordering for airport and inflight operators.

Continuing the e-commerce theme from the TFWE Conference, UCdutyfree.com provides a flexible system for any operator worldwide seeking an inexpensive solution to promote online pre-ordering by travelers. Powerful indexing and sales tracking allow operators to access and customise their own solution according to products, categories, passenger segments and other criteria. The system already has Alpha subsidiary Orient Lanka, Abu Dhabi Duty Free, ARI Pakistan and other Sri Lankan operators carrying out trial operations. "Our schedule is to cover 15 countries over the next 18 months. A B2B function for supply chain management is already under development and will be announced soon. We are very appreciative of the input we have received from the industry in the development of the service," commented S R Patwa, ceo of UC World Online.

UC World have appointed several industry figures to advise on the project including Patrick Moran of PMC International and Jose Chao, vice president Travel Retail Marketing Bacardi. Roger Turner, best known for his 14 influential years at TFWA is a board director and advisor to UC World Online.
