Today marked the official opening of Travel Retail Norway's new 1,650sq m store at Oslo International airport

Travel Retail Norway, the joint venture between Gebr Heinemann and domestic retailer Esthetique Norge, has officially unveiled its new stores at Oslo International airport. The main duty-free store is Heinemann's biggest single store both in size and turnover, and co-owner Gunnar Heinemann that the company was "delighted with its performance so far".

"The full 1,650 sq m [17,754sq ft] store has only been open for four weeks and already we are ahead of expectations," he said. "With an operation like this you expect the learning curve to last a year, so the potential is there for sales to really explode."

The partnership is six months into its seven-year contract in Oslo and has employed 200 sales staff, interviewing more than 3,600 applicants. Heinemann director Raoul Spanger said: "As our biggest single store there are a lot of challenges in Oslo, added to the fact that the peak evening and morning rush hours are busier than at most airports. Stocking, cash handling, tills and logistics are all big challenges but with our local partner we have overcome them in a very short time."
