Toronto airport authority CEO quits

27-Aug-2004

Louis Turpen retires and is replaced by COO John Kaldeway

Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) CEO Louis Turpen will leave the company on October 1. Turpen was instrumental in the creation of Lester B Pearson International airport's terminal one retail complex, which was unveiled in April to general acclaim. However, GTAA was heavily criticised by the International Air Transportation Association for increasing landing fees and terminal charges to help pay for the project. The association accused the authority of ?building a Taj Mahal while the airlines struggled?.

GTAA chief operating officer John Kaldeway has been promoted to CEO and president.
