The opening of Cancun airport T3, increased concession fees at local craft and speciality outlets and higher passenger traffic have prompted the year-on-year rise

Airports group ASUR has reported that third-quarter year-on-year duty-free revenues were up by 27.7%, which helped to increase overall commercial revenues by 59.45%. Commercial revenues for the nine months to September 30 were up 38.41% compared with the same period last year, while duty-free revenues increased by 28.47%.

The company, which operates Cancun airport and eight others in the Southeast of Mexico, attributed the increases to a rise in passenger traffic, higher concession fees charged to local crafts and speciality outlets and the opening of Cancun’s terminal three in May.

New store openings at T3 included Aldeasa’s duty-free shop as well as Sunglass Island, Roger Boots, Pineda Covalin, Cloe and Harley Davidson gift outlets and a Cinco Soles Mexican handicraft shop.

During the third quarter of 2007 total passenger traffic grew year on year by 13.78%, while domestic passenger traffic increased by 28.8% and international passenger traffic rose by 2.17%.
