TV network CNBC and airport retailer The Paradies Shops are partnering to launch CNBC branded stores in airports across North America.

Stores will display the CNBC name and broadcast channel's programming on instore TVs. Each store will sell normal newsstand items along with CNBC-branded merchandise including videos, gifts, clothing and CNBC-related business books. Stores will be rolled out over the next three years. The first store will open in June 2002 at Kansas City International airport followed by Pittsburgh. The Paradies Shops, spokeswoman Lynn Bennett, told TRW: "Some of our newstands will convert to CNBC. Other openings will proceed depending on developments and plans at airports."

While the events of September 11 had an impact on the project, delaying the launch, CNBC and NBC senior vice president of business development, Chris Glowacki, said he believes business travellers will be seeking even more up-to-the-minute information.

  • Atlanta-based The Paradies Shops operates 300 speciality stores in 57 airports across the US and Canada and has the travel-retail franchise for Harley-Davidson, Brooks Brothers and PGA Tour Shops. In 2001 Paradies' sales were $215m.
