Tenth anniversary and a new Cohiba is born

24-Oct-2002

The Grand Salon in the Hotel Carlton Cannes last night saw the tenth anniversary party for the Cohiba Linea 1492 line, created in 1992 to celebrate the fifth centenary of the discovery of tobacco in Cuba by Christopher Columbus

With a limited production of 500 units each case contains a full selection of Linea 1492: Siglo I, II, III, IV, V and the entirely new Siglo VI. The Siglo VI cigar, whose Vitola de Galera format is known as Canonazo, with base measurements of 52 and 150mm in length, is presented for the first time in a commerative humidor.

Available in travel-retail from the start of 2003, Habanos vice president Javier Terres said "Siglo VI is specially presented tonight to commemorate such an important date."

Cohiba is the flagship of the Habanos family of 33 brands. It was created for Fidel Castro in 1966 and was originally presented as an official gift to diplomats and heads of state. Cohiba Cognac by Pernod Ricard World Trade and Cuban cocktails were also on show.
