Turkish border authority Gümrük ve Turizm Isletmeleri Ticaret has launched a tender for food and beverage and retail space at six border sites

Turkish border authority Gumruk ve Turizm Isletmeleri Ticaret has called a tender for commercial space across six border sites in Turkey. The tender, which is part of a plan to modernise the Turkish border gates, covers the operation of duty-free shops and food and beverage outlets at the Habur on the border with Turkey and Iraq, Cilvegozu between Turkey and Syria, Sarp and Sarpi both of which are on the border between Turkey and Georgia, and Kapikule and Derekoy which are located on the border between Turkey and Bulgaria.

The contract for the duty-free and food and beverage operation will be awarded to one operator, as revealed in DFNI April 1, and the bidding will take place on September 19, with the deadline for entrance scheduled for August 31. The border facilities will be operated on a build-operate-transfer basis.

In 2005, the total duty-free sales on the land border reached €150m ($192m).
