Tender details emerge in Lahore
The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has released details of the tender to run duty-free at the new terminal complex at Lahore Allama Iqbal International airport
The five-year contract stipulates a licence fee of $20,000 increasing annually on a sliding scale, with a minimum annual sales guarantee of $300,000. In addition to prescribed monthly charges, the winning bidder will pay the airport authority 3% to 4% of gross turnover. The deadline for bids specified is October 21 2002.
The new terminal building is being constructed on the two-level linear concept and covers an area of 71,000sq m (763,960sq ft). The project has been designed to meet projected requirements in 2015 of 6.5m passengers per year and has 55 check-in counters. Currently Lahore airport handles 2.5m passengers per year.
Talking to Duty-Free News International earlier this year, Pakistani operator Duty Free Shops managing director David Gore said the company would table a bid for the concession. Duty Free Shops' main shareholder is Weitnauer.
The CAA has also called a tender for the airport food & beverage concession, which includes fast food and Pakistani catering.
