The Taipei airport operator is planning its new offer at a renovated area due to open in September

Taiwanese operator Tasa Meng is preparing plans to open new space at Taipei Chiang Kai-shek airport terminal two in September. The company, which was awarded a 12-year extension to its Taipei airport business earlier this year, is renovating and extending its retail business in the north wing of the terminal.

Tasa Meng general manager Gary Chau told DFNI Asia that the company was in the process of planning the new space and deciding what merchandise to offer. The company also faces the added challenge of operating other areas on behalf of the airport, he added, including a children's play area, exhibition space and an internet service centre.

Chau said that Tasa Meng's airport business differs from that of his former employer Ever Rich Corp's duty-free operation, and that the two companies are in competition at the airport. He said: "Tasa Meng's airport business is smaller – although we also have the domestic distribution business for brands including Coach and Testone. We have different "territories", as Ever Rich's main business is in the T2 south wing, but in some locations we have adjacent shops, so we compete for the same passengers there. For that reason we sometime do not work with the same suppliers – it works for us and it makes sense for suppliers not to invest in two retailers."

State-owned retailer Taiwan Tobacco & Liquor Corp also operates at the airport. All three operators were granted extensions long-term extensions earlier this year.
