The Estonian ferry operator is to take over Silja’s duty-free department imminently

Estonian ferry operator Tallink is to take control of its new acquisition Silja Line’s duty-free department in the New Year. The two companies have now been named Tallink/Silja, with many of Silja’s operations coming under the control of Tallink’s head office in Estonia.

A source close to the two operators told DFNI that "all the key duty-free personnel at Silja are gone and duty-free will be run from Estonia".

The decision means that Inflight Service, which acts as a purchasing partner for the two ferry operators, will lose all business from both companies. Inflight Service director and partner Johan Kullander told DFNI: “This doesn’t hit us too hard because we had a purchasing arrangement and not a supply agreement. Of course we never want to lose a customer but we will be able to offset the loss in 2007 when we have many things planned. Next year looks to be a good year for us.”
