The measures would exempt visitors to Kinmen, Matsu and Penghu from duties and VAT

Retailers on Taiwan’s outlying islands Kinmen, Matsu and Penghu will be able to offer tourists duty-free products if the country’s Legislature approves a law approved by the Cabinet earlier this week. The law is part of the Outlying Islands Development Act, which aims to stimulate tourism, and is a change of direction from previous proposals to open up gambling on the islands.

According to Taiwanese newspaper China Post, shops could begin implementing the duty-free regulations within three months from the Legislature approving the law.
