TFWA seeks solutions after Asia show cancellation

19-May-2003

Tax Free World Association (TFWA) will respond to the concerns of exhibitors about costs incurred through the cancellation of TFWA Asia Pacific after its Management Committee on June 13

The association is unravelling the many threads of the cancelled show and said it was trying to find a fair solution for all exhibitors.

TFWA said: "The association's partners for the event, including Suntec Singapore, Reed Exhibitions, the Singapore Tourism Board, Pacific World and the official hotels, and the venues for the various sporting and social events, have all been very understanding but there are obligations and costs to be fulfilled and TFWA, acting on behalf of its members, has been negotiating the best possible solution."

TFWA said the Management Committee, made up of elected representatives from the trade, would decide democratically how to address key issues such as reimbursement of stand booking fees.

TFWA added: "At a TFWA board meeting on 14 May a number of likely financial scenarios were reviewed, all of which will entail the association assuming a heavy financial burden as a result of the cancellation. In accordance with its motto of 'By the Trade, for the Trade', the association is adamant that a fair solution be found for all exhibitors."

TFWA president Erik Juul-Mortensen said: "We are very aware of the considerable investment which exhibitors make in a high profile event of this kind. We are doing our utmost to tidy up all the strands quickly so that the Management Committee members will have the facts before them when they meet. As a not-for-profit organisation, TFWA puts on events for the benefit of the travel-retail industry; whatever decision the committee may reach will be in the best interests of the trade."
