Tax Free World Association (TFWA) has joined several of its members in making pledges of financial assistance to charities set up to help survivors of the Asian tsunami disaster. The organisation is to make donations to the Alpha Sri Lanka Tsunami Relief Fund and the Pacific Asia Travel Association Foundation Tsunami Recovery Fund.
TFWA president Erik Juul-Mortensen paid tribute to the solidarity shown by the travel-retail industry and said: "The board and management of TFWA are appalled by the scale of the disaster in the Indian Ocean region. We are liaising closely with PATA, the Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association and a number of other organisations in the region and have made financial pledges to both the Alpha Sri Lanka Tsunami Relief Fund and to the PATA Foundation Tsunami Recovery Fund which will help rebuild the skills and livelihoods of tourism employees in the affected regions."
The association said its plans for the TFWA Asia Pacific show in Singapore were proceeding as planned.
