The airport is seeking a retailer to sell duty-free liquor, tobacco, fragrances and cosmetics on a management concession basis

Sydney International airport published its duty-free request for proposals yesterday, DFNI Asia can reveal. The documents were sent to a shortlist comprising more than 10 bidders selected from those originally expressing interest in the contract.

The airport is offering a management concession for retail of duty-free liquor, tobacco, fragrances and cosmetics. Specialist categories including confectionery, fashion and electronics will be tendered separately at a later date.

Among parties believed to be shortlisted are incumbent The Nuance Group, DFS Group, James Richardson Duty Free, King Power (Hong Kong)/Aotea, Alpha Retail and Hachette Distribution Services, possibly through its subsidiary French retailer Aelia.

Submissions are due by April 19. The airport will invite selected parties to make presentations in May and expects to announce its decision in August.
