Sydney International airport has released a request for proposals (RFP) for luxury fashion boutiques to be located in the international terminal one redevelopment, which will be completed in 2010. The new shopping area, which will create an additional 2,300sq m (24,756sq ft) of retail space, will be known as The Forum and host a selection of speciality retail along with a precinct of luxury experiences including fashion, jewellery and fine dining.

The closing date for submissions is August 22. Other RFPs recently released by the airport include opal and casual artisan jewellery concepts. RFPs for other categories are expected to be released in the near future.

Meanwhile, the airport has introduced a new online shopping site. Customers can browse the latest offerings form brands such as Ralph Lauren, Fendi and Omega and order duty-free items through the site. They can also purchase foreign currency and find out about the latest promotions going on at the airport. To celebrate the launch, the airport is giving all visitors the chance to win a A$2,000 ($1,918) shopping spree at the airport.

Sydney Airport Corporation Limited general manager of retail Derek Larsen said: “This new website provides travellers going to and from Sydney airport the ease and convenience of planning their airport shopping online at over 100 stores located in both the T1 international terminal and T2 domestic terminals. Additionally, customers will have the flexibility of browsing the new website to plan their airport purchases across a range of exciting categories and brands including the latest fashion, accessories and beauty products. They can also be the first to see the latest promotions before arriving at the airport.”
