Expansion of retail at terminal two underpins revenue growth at Sydney airport

Sydney airport’s commercial revenue rose by 9.1% to reach $A544.8m ($454m) in the nine months to March 2007. The airport attributed the growth to a 6.4% increase in passenger traffic and the expansion of the retail areas in terminal two.

The airport’s authority, Southern Cross Airports Corporation Holdings’ CEO Russell Balding said: “We are particularly pleased with the continued growth of domestic passengers through our redeveloped T2. Passenger numbers through T2 are up significantly on the previous corresponding period, and this demonstrates the strategic importance of Sydney as Australia’s major gateway and most high profile tourist destination. The initial response to the T2 retail redevelopment has been very encouraging, with recent passenger surveys providing very pleasing results.”

According to the airport's annual survey of airport passengers, 89% were satisfied with the “overall T2 experience”, an increase of 8% points compared with this time last year.
