Local operator Opals on George has been awarded two jewellery concessions at Sydney International airport terminal one
Sydney International airport has announced the winners of two jewellery tenders issued in June. The opal jewellery and the ‘bridge’ jewellery concessions in terminal one were won by local operator Opals on George, Australia’s largest specialist opal retailer. The airport said the company was awarded the contracts because of its “outstanding concepts and extensive experience over 27 years”.
Opals on George will open an Adorn Silver shop in the bridge jewellery area, so called because it is between fine jewellery and costume jewellery, offering products made from precious metals and semi-precious stones. The opal concept called Opal Fields will sell unique pieces ranging from value-based gift items to high-quality products. The two T1 jewellery concepts will be located in Sydney airport’s new shopping precinct, part of a A$500m ($419m) redevelopment project that will expand the terminal’s retail offer to more than 140 stores.
Sydney airport has also awarded a new jewellery concession in the domestic T2 to Danish company Pandora, which will operate a charm-based concept at the location. The airport added that further T1 requests for proposal are imminent in the fashion and accessories, sunglasses, lingerie, sport, lifestyle, books, food and toys categories.
