Swiss public approves of Zurich Airside Center

15-Sep-2004

Over a quarter of a million non-travellers received a surprise perk when they visited the new commercial facility between September 10-13

Zurich airport's new Airside Center welcomed around 270,000 people over an open weekend before the facility opened for travel this morning (September 15), airport authority Unique told TRW. The non-travelling public were allowed to inspect the new building as the result of a special arrangement with Customs and immigration authorities, and Unique head of real estate and marketing Peter Eriksson reported ?only happy faces and positive feedback?.

The agreement with Customs also enabled the Airside Center's 52 retail outlets to offer tax-free prices during the event, although the airport was not allowed to publicise the discount. Eriksson said that strong signage promoting the savings within the 12,000sq m (129,120sq ft)complex ensured that word spread quickly round visitors, and he estimated sales of around SFr2m ($1.6m) over the weekend.
