Strong commercial growth underlies increased ASUR profit

The Mexican airport authority has announced a 29.8% increase in profits in the second quarter of the year
Mexican airport authority ASUR has reported a 29.8% increase in net profit for the second quarter of 2007, to Ps234m ($21.8m), with strong passenger and commercial growth underlying the recovery from the disruption caused by Hurricane Wilma in late 2005.
The authority said that traffic across its nine airports rose by 15.3%, with Cancún, its biggest airport, recording growth of 13.3%. Sales climbed by 17.5% to Ps701.2m ($65.2m), driven by a 32.8% increase in revenue from duty-free shops and a 35.4% increase in revenue from other retail operations.
ASUR said the strong commercial growth in the second quarter was the result of the opening of Cancúns terminal three on May 18. Aldeasa won the tender to operate the duty-free concession there in October last year, and opened a 1,800sq m (19,368sq ft) walk-through store.
