Strike dates called at BAA airports

12-Nov-2002

Firefighters and security guards are to begin a series of one-day strikes at BAA airports at the end of November, in a move that could mean chaos for the country's travellers in the run-up to Christmas

The Transport and General Workers' Union said the strikes would be simultaneous across all seven of BAA's UK  airports. The dates planned for strike action are November 28 and December 2, 10, 15, and 23 and January 2 the union said.

BAA said it was disappointed at the decision, arguing that it had already offered workers in these sectors increases at more than the rate of inflation. It said these proposed rises were better than unions had recommended to members in the last pay talks.

BAA added that it would press for arbitration to halt strike action and help find a solution to the problem.
