Stansted airport begins the extension of the main terminal this month which will increase its retail offer
Stansted airport began work to extend its main terminal building this month. The £40m ($79m) development will add an extra 5,900sq m (63,484sq ft) of floor space to the international arrivals area of the terminal and is due to be open by June 2008, with the project fully completed by December 2008.
Stansted airport spokesperson Robbie Barrigan told RavenFox.com: The main bulk of the new retail area will be landside. This will be occupied through existing concessionaires as well as some new ones although they are to be announced later into the project. The landside arrivals area will be the main focal point, which will be made up from retail units as well as units for onward transport companies.
Other key features of the project include doubling the size of the immigration hall, providing extra space for additional baggage carousels and the creation of a new and improved area for meeters and greeters at international arrivals, with enhanced retail and onward transport facilities.
BAA Stansted business development and planning director Nick Barton said: This significant investment will create additional space and facilities that will benefit both passengers and business partners alike.
