The Caribbean island's Princess Juliana International airport has closed the bidding for retail and catering outlets in the facility's new terminal
Bidding for retail and catering concessions at Princess Juliana International airport (PJIA) on St Maarten closed on August 15, with over 80 proposals submitted, according to the airport. The outlets being tendered will be situated in PJIA's new terminal building and will cover 2,500sq m (26,900sq ft) of space, mostly airside.PJIA president Eugene Holiday said: "The reaction to the invitation to bid provides us with a good basis to select quality proposals from among the applicants. The amount of proposals will enable us to establish a diverse offering to the travelling public and to residents making use of the Airport Mall. I am optimistic that we will achieve our objectives."
RavenFox.com understands that Duty Free Caribbean is among the international retailers to have submitted bids. Aldeasa, which recently began operating duty-free at neighbouring Curaçao, has also studied the opportunity.
The airport has begun work on evaluating the proposals and will assess bidders' plans for marketing, customer service and design in addition to their financial offers. "Following the assessment of the amount of work involved we will establish a date for the announcement of the selected applicants," said Holiday. "This date will be communicated to each applicant within a short time."
