Sofia Airport has opened four new shops at the new terminal two and has allocated a further 500sq m (5,380sq ft) to retail

Airport authority Sofia Airport opened four new stores, which total almost 1,000sq m (10,760sq ft), at the new terminal two earlier this month following Bulgaria's accession to the EU. The terminal features a 400sq m (4,300sq ft) outlet for fragrances and cosmetics, accessories, fashion and toys, a 300sq m (3,228sq ft) liquor, tobacco and confectionery store, a 150sq m (1,614sq ft) Bulgaria wine and spirits shop on the first floor and a 100sq m (1,076sq ft) arrivals store on the ground floor. A further 500sq m (5,380sq ft) of space has been allocated for retail at T2.

Sofia Airport told Ravenfox.com: “The number of shops and their space is greater [than at terminal one], which has enabled us to offer a larger product assortment and a better service to passengers. The stores are modern and with a completely new look and design.”

In T1 Sofia Airport operates a 300sq m (3,228sq ft) shop in departures, a 160 sq m (1,721sq ft) arrivals outlet, an 8sq m (86sq ft) store in the VIP lounge and a 60sq m (645sq ft) crew outlet.

The airport authority expects retail revenues to drop by between 10% and 40% this year following Bulgaria’s accession to the EU. Intra-EU duty-free has been replaced with duty-paid liquor and tobacco.
