Smooth as velvet as annual Ball sold out

Friday night's Black Velvet Ball is sold out, capping a record attendance for the annual Raven Fox charity dinner.

Over 380 industry executives are attending this year's event, to be held at London's Grosvenor House from 19.15. It is raising funds for the Chernobyl Children's Project, an Ireland-based charity that assists children and families who are long-term victims of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor disaster.

Raven Fox managing director Martin Moodie said: "We have been overwhelmed by the response. Retailers and suppliers from all over the globe are attending and the spirit of goodwill has been magnificent. We have had a $500 personal donation from Alberto (Pancho) Motta, chairman of Motta Internacional who is also president of IAADFS and Everrich of Taiwan has donated £1,880. It shows what a benevolent industry we can be."

Guests are urged to allow plenty of time for transport given London's current security issues. They are also urged to allow a long recovery time on the Saturday.
