A new store at Hong Kong International airport's new terminal two is set to boost business for the liquor and tobacco concessionaire
Hong Kong liquor and tobacco operator Sky Connection is set to boost its store portfolio with the addition of a new outlet at Hong Kong International airport later this year, DFNI Asia can reveal. The retailer has been awarded a contract to operate space of more than 2,500sq ft (232sq m) in terminal two when it opens later this year. The company will sell liquor and tobacco from the airside site in T2, although Sky Connection CEO Baker Salleh told DFNI Asia that the company had not finalised the product offer. "The airlines serving the terminal have not yet been decided," he said, "but once we know which ones will use the terminal we can start to plan the offer in more detail. At the moment we understand it will be mainly European carriers with a smattering of Chinese and Asian airlines. If that is correct we will probably be offering an assortment tailored towards the middle market rather than featuring the higher-end products in cognacs and single malt whisky, like we do in T1."
Salleh added that he expected the store to make a significant contribution to the retailer's turnover, particularly given its prime location, with passengers having to walk directly past the store between checking in and catching the train to the gates.
The new outlet will be operated under Sky Connection's established Free Duty fascia.
