Six more years for Aldeasa in Peru
The operator is to almost double its retail space at Jorge Chavez International Airport with a $2m investment.
Spanish duty-free and travel-retail operator Aldeasa has signed a six-year contract extension with Lima Airport Partners (LAP), the joint venture company that operates Jorge Chavez International Airport in the Peruvian capital.
The revised contract means that Aldeasa will hold the duty-free concession until the end of 2011. This will be automatically extended for a further six years to 2017 if certain performance targets are reached. Aldeasa has been operating in Lima since 1994.
LAP is a partnership between Alterra, which owns 57.5%, and Fraport, which owns 42.5%.
Aldeasa will operate a total of six outlets totalling 1,400sq m (4,593sq ft) once renovation has finished, up from the current total of three outlets measuring 880sq m (2,887sq ft). The Spanish multinational will invest $2m in renovating its retail spaces and will be able to introduce a number of new categories, absent up until now because of space shortages. LAP is more than halfway through a $200m renovation of the terminal facilities at Jorge Chavez International airport, which should mean a substantial increase in passenger traffic at the airport.
Aldeasa chief operating officer Alfonso Calderon told DFNI: ?This is a great piece of news for the company. We are proud of the relationship we maintain with LAP and we are sure that this new agreement will be beneficial for both companies. We have been working together with LAP to plan the new shop locations and we have tried to get maximum traffic flow into the shops. LAP is a professional company and they have understood what we need to make our retail outlets successful. The totally renovated airport will bring more passengers and we have designed our new outlets to be part of the new airport design. More space, better shop designs and layouts, improved management of traffic flow and a wider range of products will result in increased sales.?
The contract extension at Lima comes after last month's announcement of a contract extension for Aldeasa at Madeira International airport.
