The Siemens Flyport will enable airports to accommodate more passengers and keep up with expected passenger growth in the next few years

Concept image of the Siemens FLyportSiemens Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) has unveiled a modular design passenger terminal that can be installed rapidly to create an instant airport or expand capacity at existing airports. Flyport can handle up to 1.5m passengers a year with a total floor area of 5,000sq m (53,819sq ft), according to the Siemens I&S website.

The Flyport concept, which can also accommodate a duty-free shop and restaurant in its second floor airside departures area, is based on prefabricated container units consisting of all equipment required in a terminal. These can be put together to form a complete system without long-term construction work. The departure area is laid out for conventional check-in counters, check-in counters for oversize baggage and self-service check-in machines. Departing passengers are guided to their boarding gates by display boards, while incoming passengers are directed through the passport control area, and reclaim their baggage in the arrivals area.
