Other watch suppliers including Emporio Armani, Burberry Endurance and Casio will launch timepieces at T5
World Duty Free (WDF) has struck a deal with watch supplier Sekonda to create an exclusive timepiece for the opening of London Heathrow airport terminal five on March 27. Sekonda has designed a limited edition gentleman’s chronograph of which only 500 pieces have been made. Retailing for £100 ($201), it features 24-hour readout, date, world time facility and is water-resistant to 200m.
Other companies will also be present at the T5 opening with new creations. Emporio Armani will launch three new designs, all in stainless steel: a gentleman’s watch (pictured) with 18ct rose gold plated case, black dial and leather strap priced at £191.45 ($386); a lady’s watch featuring 18ct rose gold plate on the face and strap costing £212.75 ($429); and a lady’s charcoal-coloured watch with round dial and removable white crystal charms that will retail for £165.99 ($335).
Burberry Endurance has designed a series of five watches for men with varying straps in rubber, stainless steel or fabric. All are water-resistant to 100m and prices range from £336.15 ($678) to £404.25 ($815).
Finally, Casio has created a G-Shock man’s watch featuring various light functions, stopwatch, countdown timer, progress beeper, 29 time zones and water resistance up to 200m. It is available in blue, red and purple exclusively at T5 and will retail for £68.05 ($137).
Other watch brands available at the main WDF store at T5 will include Hamilton Watch, Breil, Frederique Constant and Michael Kors. The outlet will also offer Toy Watch timepieces exclusively in travel-retail.
WDF managing director Mark Riches said: “World Duty Free in T5 will be a hotbed of new and exclusive products, with limited editions and first-look items available across all categories. Watches have always done exceptionally well in our stores, in particular designer brands such as these, so I am delighted they have decided to mark the launch of our stores in the new terminal in this fashion.”
