The Oman airport reports a strong start to the year with passenger numbers to the end of July reaching 2.19m

Passenger traffic at Oman's Seeb International airport in Muscat has increased by 28.4% to 2.19m passengers in the first seven months of the year, up from 1.57m for the same period in 2003. Incoming passenger traffic has inflated by 29% to 901,100 up from 698,400 passengers last year, while outgoing numbers rose by 28% from 721,300 to 923,400.

The airport is currently working on a $17.5m redevelopment, to come online in 2008, that will increase passenger capacity from 3m to 6.5m annually. Duty-free space at the airport, operated by Aer Rianta International-Middle East with local partner Oman Aviation Services, is set to grow from 1,200sq m (12,920sq ft) to around 3,000sq m (32,300sq ft).
